I had a 30-day trial of Visual C++ but that ran out a long time ago so I can no longer compile my code.

If you are curious, I was working on a simple mod that adds many single-player altering cvars, like enemy damage multiplier, enemy health multiplier, max ammo for each weapon, and I can go on into infinity. But as I see bugs pop up one by one it gets annoying to not be able to compile the fixed version of the code.

So I was wondering if anyone knows a good open-source compiler?
Though I should tell you that I barely know anything about coding and the compiling process so I'd love a compiler that doesn't have too complicated interface.

By the way, Korax, if you want you could implement something like this into the future Quake 2 engine that you will release. I bet many single-players would enjoy replaying Quake 2 more with a few alterations to the gameplay.

You may have already solved this yourself, but....

I don't whether things have changed, but you can download the Visual Studio C++ Express 2008 and I am not aware of any time limits on this product, but I haven't got around to using it yet.

Alternatively, you can download and use the Intel C/C++ compiler. You can acquire a free 1-year license for the product (one would hope you could get another license after the first expired!)

Okay, so neither are Open Source. If you are familiar with the Microsoft product range then you may be best trying to stick with that.

Thanks for the reply.
I did find a compiler; Visual C++ 2005. Microsoft have a freeware version of this product, it is said to be limited but I'm not enough of a coder to run into those just yet. :p

But thanks for the tips anyway, I'll keep those in mind in case something goes wrong with VC++ 2005.
