Played Hexen and Hexen 2 from the beginning. Are fond of the coop playing. We found nothing as good so we wanted to start again with Hexen 2 version 1.03 on two via LAN connected XP computers. Formerly we played it in W98. Now we have problems with movements. A movement (or turning) can keep going on after you stop touching the mouse or key. Sometimes you cannot turn at all. Sometimes the colour changes suddenly to a very light view with a low resolution. We tried the patch 1.11 but it didn't work.
Can anyone help to solve these problems?

Hi there!

Install the latest official Hexen2 patch.. I think its 1.11 or 1.12, then if you are still not happy with the results, try upgrading the newly patched game to the UQE version of Hexen2 and see if that helps fix your problems.

With regards to the movements.. try unplugging the joystick.. or disable the joystick on the commandline when you start Hexen2.

Hope it helps!

Hai Korax,
We tried to do as you said, the 1.11 patch was already installed and today we cleaned the directory and unpacked the files from the UQE version. But it didn't work, at least not for the movement problem. Often my character kept turning long after I stopped touching the arrow button.
But typing disconnect joystick after the prompt in the console seems to work! Although there is no joystick and when starting Hexen it says that there is indeed no joystick found. The command disable joystick wasn't accepted.
Thank you for reacting so quickly! I hope we can now enjoy Hexen 2 again like 10 years ago without problems.

We never found another game of this quality where you could shoot monsters ( I hate to shoot humans!), solve puzzles and save any moment. Waiting for the moment to play the old Hexen 1 in coop!

Hi Korax
Sorry but it didn't work after all. Tonight we tried to play hexen2 and this time it was most often my husband (he is the host on an identical computer as I have) who got the floating problem. The keybord-controls react slowly and when they function, often you keep floating on. Typing joystick 0 or disable joystick or disconnect joystick in the console didn't work either. Other console-commands I could get working so that's not the problem.
Is there a difference in command-line and console? And if so how can I get there? I tried the DOS command (that's the only command-line I know) and I typed Hexen2.exe joystick 0 after the prompt, The game started normally but we still had the same problems.
It seems that the keybord-movements especially are influenced. But you can't play Hexen only with the mouse.
Long ago we had a joystick and it was connected to the soundcard we had on that computer. Could it be that we have to change something in the settings of the on-board sound device we have now? We both have an Asus M2NPV-VM motherboard and still work with the on-board audio and video.
Maybe this information is of some help?

Hmm.. Its quite a strange problem you are having there.. is the computers fast enough?
Lets say, at least a Pentium3 or higher? (just incase)

Try the following in the dos prompt: hexen2.exe -nojoy
The same command will also work for glhexen2.exe, I'm not 100% sure about the commandlibe though.. lets say 95%.. but I'll take a look on the internet to be sure if thats the way you disable it, but if you say you dont have a joystick attached, then it shouldnt make any difference.

Is the framerate good.. the gameplay smooth?

Hi Korax
Computers fast enough (Atlon 64 3200+)
Command -nojoy did not give the solution. Gameplay is smooth (visual and audial) only reaction to keybordcommands is rubbish. Problems occure at the moment on both computers even in singleplay.
Could it be the fact that we are using a wide screen? ( using onboard nvidea geforce 6150) we tried playing in a window also: same problems.
And the keyboard (logitech deluxe 250 ) is in the configurationscreen only working as a standard keyboard. I don't have or can find special drivers for this keybord. Could it be that the keyborddriver is causing the problem?

Thats really a strange problem you are having right there.. at the moment I dont have the slightest idea what could cause it. Its not supposed to be it, its a very long shot, try to up your typematic rate on your keyboard.. in the bios or maybe in windows and see if it makes any kind of difference, for better or worse. also try another type of keyboard, just incase.

How is the response of the mouse if you look around?
